PROJECT
Very early on in this projects it was decided that we'd avoid any traditional caribbean percussion. Although Haiti feels like a character in the film, we decided to score it from our lead's (Tiyo) point of view. The percussion that was used was recorded with mallets to remove the trademark higher frequencies of the instrument. Although the score was composed from Tiyo's POV, it was important that we leveraged suspended notes to avoid conveying his choices and future one way or another.
Port of a Prince won the Audience Award at the Pan African Film Festival.
