A PLACE IN THE FIELD
PROJECT
The director, Nikki Mejia came with a very clear direction. We wanted the sound of an nylon acoustic guitar with space and purpose. One of the first exercises we did was turning our back to the picture and improvising while Nikki walked me through to how to feel similar to a guided meditation. Following her lead and recording live without overthinking. Most of the guitar recorded in this session made it to the film as is. This gave everything a bigger sense of purpose and the undeniable fact that we were in it together. A theremin was used in conjunction with the acoustic guitar to create a theme that would cut through any cue. I can't tell you how many takes it took me to record the theremin exactly how I needed it.
A Place in The Field was my first feature film and was picked up by Lionsgate / Grindstone Ent. with an upcoming 2023 theatre run.
