MARA HAS THREE JOBS IN SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
PROJECT
This film revolves around a myth from our Taíno history. The idea was to create a sound that was modern but still felt like it belonged to the island. The inspiration came from a whistle we used to make using our hands. Something that was instinctively primal to us. I enlisted my long time collaborator Guigo Sánchez to assist with the recording of these whistles along with other toys and knicknacks. I then resampled this into the melody that became the main theme for the film.
Incredibly collaborative process with Ana and the team. Being able to start explorations and develop a sound at script level meant the intent of the film as it was written was embedded in the music from day one.
